With the plethora of pervasive nutrition advice and a culture fixated on health and thinness it makes sense to be overwhelmed, frustrated, and hurt by the task of feeding and caring for ourselves. Messages about “good” versus “bad” foods (and bodies) pervade our psyche from the youngest of ages. We are made to believe that there is a path to the perfect body and diet, and that it is just around the corner if we only continue the exhausting pursuit. The diet culture we all live in steals happiness and makes us become distrustful of our bodies. I firmly believe there is another way, a more sustainable approach to food and health.

How many diets have you tried and quit? What if I told you that it wasn’t you failing the diet, but the diet failing YOU? Many of us grew up believing that thin equals healthy, and that sticking to rigid rules around eating and moving would lead to happiness and success. But in reality, sticking to food rules creates stronger and stronger cravings, feelings of powerlessness or guilt, and disconnection from the body’s signals of hunger, fullness, thirst, and more! Dieting can even lead to total loss of control, binge eating, and shame spirals. To heal a chaotic relationship with food, the first step is understand this cycle.

Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Have you tried every diet or health hack, yet still fall short of reaching your wellness goals? I get it! We get bombarded with daily messages about quick fixes to improve our health. Only to learn they are not sustainable in the long run. So how do we actually make lifestyle changes that we can stick to, for good? Through my personal experience I have found that there is no “one diet fits all.” To find food freedom, we must listen to our bodies, and stop listening to the noise of diet culture. Once I practiced this for myself, I found that food affected my mood, digestion & energy.

Whether you have a diagnosed eating disorder, are in recovery, or simply want to have a better relationship with food, we can work together to hone your body’s innate wisdom and fine-tune your intuitive eating skills. In addition to nutrition therapy, we can reclaim your relationship with joyful movement, and move toward body acceptance and weight neutrality. Everyone deserves a relationship with food that’s nourishing and non-punitive. But to create peace with our body, we first need to undo the harmful internal biases we hold so we can develop a nourishing relationship with food.

If you're feeling like you're losing a longstanding battle with your body, you're not alone. Or perhaps your constant attempts to control food ends up feeling like food is controlling you and your life. Again, you are not alone. You do not have to live a life that is limited by food rules, even if they're in the name of health. You do not have to live in constant worry about what others will think of your body. You do not have to waste the majority of your precious mental and emotional capacity ruminating on food and your body. Because: you were born for great things.

Hi there, I'm Abby! I am currently accepting telehealth clients in both Oregon and Washington. As an Anti-Diet Dietitian, I enjoy helping individuals who want to improve their overall health and vitality through a positive relationship with food, body, and movement. Together, I help my clients find health-promoting behaviors that work for them, rather than implementing strict food rules or diets. Nutrition therapy is not just about what you eat - but the psychology behind how food and eating makes you feel and how past experiences/society may impact that.

How can a Washington Nutritionist help me?
Dietitians and Nutritionists in Washington provide advice on good eating habits. They help you with your diet and how it affects your health. They assess nutrition needs and food patterns, plan a diet that's appropriate for your physical and dietary needs, and provide nutrition counseling, such as advice on dietary changes and menu plans. They advise on special diets for medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, food allergies, and obesity.

The word dietitian has a variant spelling 'dietician' (e.g. find a Washington dietician). Both spellings are correct.

About Washington Registered Dietitians
Registered Dietitians or Registered Dietitian Nutritionists in Washington complete a bachelor's degree at a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as a period of supervised practice and an exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. While certification is not required in all states for nutritional counseling or nutrition therapy, only individuals certified by their respective states may use the Certified Dietitian or Certified Nutritionist titles.

How to use my insurance?
Some Nutritionists and Washington dietary professionals accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the Nutritionist or Dietitian.
